Hi all,

I'am planning to build some RF modules, so I need informations about
connectors.
I must decide between N and/or SMA connectors.
My application should lie in region some GHz.
What types of connectors should I choose?

If I will buy the connectors in small quantities (10 to 20 pieces)
where can I get it in cheap prices ?

thanks and regards

Re: SMA and N Connector

SMA is much more mechanically convenient but has lower power rating compared to N. I assume you are operating under tens of Watts when I suggest SMA.

If you look at the minicircuits catalog, their N connector attenuators are rated to 6 GHz and the SMA ones are rated to 18 GHz.

Re: SMA and N Connector

how much power rating of your system, if the power is low, you can choose the SMA, if the power rating is high(>100W), then use the N connector, that is OK?

SMA and N Connector

N type is more rugger than SMA.
N is more "intuitive" if non-expert person should connect or disconnect.
Once connected to the opposite sex, N is splash proof, but remember that N and SMA are not rated as waterproof.
The cost and the rugger index depend on metal alloy. Stainless Steel is more expensive and more robust than Brass made connectors.

Besides,SMA has smaller size which is also in sonsideration.

All the above are good to consider. Also, N type connectors can be tightened by hand (finger tight), whereas SMA should be tightened with a torque wrench.
