what is generally followed thickness for a four layer board ? UltiBoard software, which I am using, shows a value of 39.3 mils by default. is this fine for production my manufacturer accepts anything above 20 mils, so that isnt any problem.

The cheepest (the standard) in the USA is 59-62 mils, 0.062inch
This range is generally refered to as 062
