We are trying to build a digital transmitter/receiver for our rc plane (autopilot) project. We want to build it ourselves from scratch and with ordinary cheap IC's available in the local market.

Obviously the transmitter range should be at least 500m-1km.

Found a lot of material from web but they use spcific transmitter/receiver
chips not available in local markets. On the other hand circuits using
common ic's e.g. mc2833/mc13155 have either very short range or they don't
send data digitally.

Please suggest a solution (transmitter/receiver chip, its circuit, how to extend its range) ?????

Try to attach a two stage booster amplifier after MC2833 (driver and PA) to increase the power from 10dBm somewhere close to 30dBm (1W), and definitely you will get 1km range.
If you use digital modulation the maximum data rate that MC2833 support is 2.4 kb/sec, which is enough for an R/C model.
