LED light intensity calibration

I have a red LED and a photodiode mounted beside each other, I wish to build a circuit that can regulate the light intensity of the red LED to a fixed level(determined by the photocurrent seen by the photodiode beside the LED), how can I achieve that circuit as simple as possible.
