Hi, I am very new to these topics and i need to design a test pattern generator. Can anyone help me on where to start? What topics should I read? And are TPGs analog or digital? or maybe both?

I would really appreciate the help. Thank you!

You'll need to understand:
1. What video formats you are going to support (eg. NTSC, PAL, 1080p etc)
2. What transport medium are you using (Analog, SDI, Ethernet etc)
3. What are you using to generate the test patterns (FPGA, processor, buffers etc)

So, your question is very open - you probably need to research lots of things if you really dont know where to start. Probably best researching what video formats and interfaces you need to support.

Hi,

I totally agree.
Additionally you need to know what the tespattern is used for.
* checking electronics
* checking geometrics
* checking colors
* any other
