555 Duty factor

How can 555 be used as a pulse width modulator. I doubt that frequency also changes if you intend to change duty factor (VCO). Please clarfiy.

Re: 555 Duty factor

This has nothing to to with microcontrollers, nvd please always post in the correct forum topic moved

there is no relation between the freqency and duty cycle. because the duty cycle is define as the ratio of on time to total time but in case of 555IC generally we do like to define this as ratio of off time to total time. where as the frequency is the 1/the total time. if u r going to change the width of the pulse that means u r only changing the on time but the total time remains constant so as the frequency. so a 555 can be used as a pulse width modulator
