Solar Battery Charger

I am trying to do a solar charger to charge up a lead acid battery. My solar panel will generate a about 22V and 0.24A with about 5W power. Is it possible to charge up a 12V 7.2AH battery. How long can the battery be charged. I found out some circuit diagram in internet but most of the solar panel have a 10W power.

This circuit shows a general purpose linear voltage regulator based on the LM317.
It looses a lot of energy as heat – because it’s linear: heat = (Vi-Vout)*I[load]
In your case I’d suggest small switcher based on, say, LM2575 (or similar) which will convert energy-to-energy with quite good efficiency.
So, the input energy of 22V*0.24A can be converted to 14V*0.35A, or something like that, including loses in the regulator.
