1- simply we will use PCB high speed design when the trace length on PCB Be comparable by wavelength of the maximum Frequency content of the signal Pass through it. this lead to consider this trace transmission line not simple short circuit.
2- Simply Mixed Signal when your circuit contain Analog Circuit and Digital Circuit or when your PCB Contain some circuit that sensitve to noise then the GND must seperated and isolated from noisy GND
