syn & sta

Is STA used for checking whether each APR's result meet the constraint of syn which are used to produce current APR's input?

As we know, during the iterations between syn & backend, each syn. turn uses different constraint. So does it mean in each STA turn, should STA script be changed to comply with the syn script used to produce current APR's input?

Thanks a lot!

Re: syn & sta

hi,
sta constraint should consistent with syn constraint.

Re: syn & sta

Thanks a lot for your confirmation! :)

Re: syn & sta

hi,
you r welcomed.
btw: as I know, in 2004.06 version, the timing engine in PC is the same as PT.

Re: syn & sta

yes,
but I think STA tool is not only usded to generate input for APR,using it to analyze timing of post-layout netlist is main popurse.

Re: syn & sta

There are two purposes for STA tools:
1) Generating constraints for layout tool. Synthesis tool can generate it too, but it contains too many other commands which are valid only in synthesis tool.

2) Checking and analyzing the post layout timing to see if it meets your design target. You can prepare your STA environment before doing layout, but some parameters need to be changed after layout is done 8) (e.g. pre-layout clock settings v.s. post-layout clock settings). 8)

syn & sta

sta contraint is looser than the syn, because the syn must be over timing contraints.
