colour image to grayscale image in verilog

to convert the colour image the grayscale the pixels values of rgb is added and divided by 3 (y=rgb/3), the file format is bmp, the values in the colour image which consists of rgb values are many when we convert it to grayscale it is reduced, how to change the bmp header format to grayscale format,(to change the Type; Size; Reserved1; Reserved2; OffBits; and many more thing)
