pic to pic serial communication

i am trying to get some idea about serial communication between microcontrollers.

here is my question;

do i need to use any peripheral device such as max232 in order to make two pics communicate each other via USART?

pls, anyone having information or schematic share

there are many options for you.

A simple USART will work. No you do not need to use any other chip as long as the operating voltages are the same for both the PIC. schematic is simple, 3 wires (1) common ground (2) TX - RX (3) RX -TX
 
Ya. That will do. Or you can go to SPI too by making one controller as master & the other one as slave.
