I was wondering if someone may give me some ideas on how to send data from my computer's serial port to drive a 7 seg display. The data will be a digit 0 to 9. How can I convert the serial rs232 data to parallel?

I will need to send 8 digits, but I suppose if I can do one I can do the rest.
I will appreciate if someone can help me.
thanks

there are a lot of links concerning serial communication.

You can use 89C51 to talk with your PC and drive the 7-segment LED.

You can use PIC that can be connected to RS232 and it can drive as many displays as you need. If you need more information contact me!

I will appreciate if you could help me out. I sent a private message to you
thanks a lot!!!
