calculate the average symbol energy

Hi Folks

In wireless systems, how can I calculate the Energy of a Symbol ? .. where the symbol is a collection of a number of Samples (say 32) .. each sample is a vector by itself (i.e. can be represented by I + jQ) ?

I have one answer, but I'm not sure how accurate it is:
Energy Sum of a certain symbol can be calculated by individually calculating the Magnitude Square of each of its Samples, then sum all the magnitudes and finally divide them by the number of samples .. is this correct ?

symbole energi

I think you don't need to divide by the number of samples at the end.

calculate symbol

If we are not going to divide by the number of samples per symbol, this means that the resultant calculated value will be equal to the sum of all magnitude squares of all samples .. not the average magnitude square
