Communication between MIPS and MCU

there is a MIPS core and MCU in my recent SOC design, MIPS is in charge of
data processing and MCU is in charge of controlling, so there are some communication between MIPS and MCU, does anybody konw such a deign like this and the communication between them?? thanks

some kind of shared-memory, connected with on-chip bus is common method.
