Hi All

i try to work with MicroBlaze on Spartan-3E starter KIT

there are some tutorials speak about the ".pbd " file which enable you from Design your Cpu and Cpu Bus by Graphic

.pbd file is supposed to be created by Xilinx Platform Studio

i have EDK 9.1i and i do not know how to create it

is there any one have any idea about this file and how can i create it and how can i Edit my design by Graphic ?

isn't this file generated automatically while doing the design..??!!
you should see it in the "system" tab...

Hi

thanks Salma

i did not find "system" tab in my EDK version
may be there is a missing tool i did not install it

could you please tell me what the tools i should install to be able to work with MicroBlaze ?

I feel that Xilinx tools and documentations are scattered mess :(

thanks

well, i never worked with microblaze...just the powerpc...but i don't think it's different..!!

try to see in the project tab, under project files...!!

what version of EDK do you have?? i have 10.1

i have now EDK 10.1

and i did not find system tabe

i attached a screen-shot to the EDK

please tell me where can I find the system tabe

mmm
there's nothing even under the project tab...

try to see this file in your working directory...

but why do you need it anyway?? is it important for continuing in the project you have...

maybe it's something that's obsolete already and isn't used anymore in the newer versions (anyway, if should be under the "system" tab, which isn't there anymore)!!

thanks Salma for your replying

first:
i am begging with EDK and ISE tools and i am trying to learn how to use them to implement my design using a MicroBalze

second:
i asked a bout .pbd file because there are some tutorials speak about the ".pbd " file which enable you to Design your Cpu and Cpu Bus by Graphic

do you have any idea how can i implement my design using Graphic way

thanks

well
i don't understand what you mean by graphic way
but the normal flow to learn EDK is to start with the base system builder and then add IPs to your design!!
just do the tutorials found here on edaboard or online in general...
they're mostly straight forward and simple...
don't make life complicated :D

Ok Salma......I will try :D

look to the attached picture
First........ could you pleas tell me what is this tool and how can i get it
second.... if you look at this picture you will find system.pbd which try to implement the circuit digram (look at System Digram View in the picture)....and that is what i mean by Graphic way

thanks

i think that's the old version of EDK...
and that this pbd file used to be generated but it's not anymore...!!!

but you can already see the connections with the system assembly view -> bus interface or with the block diagram tab directly...

mmm

i think i understand now

thanks very much Salma for all your replying and your cooperation

thanks

you're welcome
just dive into this version of EDK...and its tutorials!
you'll find many differences between it and the older versions...
for instance, if you're designing with powerpc, you'll see that the OPB isn't the "preferred" bus, it's the FSL that's recommended...

good luck and if you need anything just ask and i'll try to help out as much as i can :)

salam,
salma
