propic2 xp

I have used the Propic2 software (not the XP version)
with my board and with Win98 without problems.
But now I need to program some newer Pic chips. My working
older version of Propic2 will not handel the newer pic chips. IE the (A) version of the f877 and the 18f452 etc.

I Just downloaded the latest XP version and licensed it to the Gold version.
The program executes just fine, but no data is sent out the LPT1 port.
I tried setting the LPT port to ECP and still no go.
I have tried several other settings and still no go.
IF I test the LPT1 port with an old Dot Matrix printer it works fine.
I have two friends who also have not gotten there Propic2XP version to work with their XP PCs.

I am using a home made burner board chipped with a 12c508 copy.
My 2 friends are both using the manufacturers original boards (both chipped with the factory 12c508 IC).
We have contacted Octavio of Propic but he will not respond with anything other than "it should be working".

I decided to switch over to the latest version of IC-PROG (XP ver) to do my burning. But whenever I run the IC-prog software, I immediately get an error box stating:
" PRIVILEGED INSTRUCTION" and of course the prog wont work either.
Seems that there is some sorta conflick with Icpog & the WinXP OS.

Please - could someone tell me what, if anything, I am doing wrong.

Any help would be greatly appreciated

propic2.exe

bt,dt,dt,tt,dw

use icprog

connect the vcc supply to the place chip connects

then it will work but not for low voltage programming
mode so you can still flash with that just adding a link and removing the pic

my advice is to send the guy money
he is skint and its a good programmer

worth an upgrade i think
esp as you prob used it free for a while and enjoyed it
and fair of the guys time i think....!!!
and less to pay if you have bought it before

other than this i beleve the files on his site

arent the full version and this is sent by mail
however the design is the same
with a possible firmware update avalible at the same time

there are lots of clones that dont use the chip
look in other places on the board
and use the search the string propic2 returns a few usefull topics
look for epropic2 also {is an epic and a propic in one realy worth buying software for } !!! as it works with most ide's in icp isp and icd modes

i bought a better picall pic senix avr and many more

after getting frustrated by a heep of yesteryears programmers building up

still not a bad place to find an lm317 when i need one

propic2 software

You must enable NT/2000 driver from options - misc to get a working ICprog on XP.
Also, change icprog.exe attributes to work in win2000 compatibility.

icprog xp 64 driver

Thanx xirix

That worked for the IC-PROg program.
I knew about the NT sys driver but I did not know that I had to physically enable it from with in ICprog set up menu.

Hopefully someone can also tell me how to get the new Propic2 jobbie working.

I doubt that the Propic2XP demo is badly crippled, as I and everyone else would never buy a progam if their demo completely failed. Note the new propic2 demo is also the upgrade, or so we have been told by Octavio(manufacturer).
Anyhow, my 2 friends did buy the the original Propic2 software.
They were promised (by the manufacturer)that the dowloadable new XP version would work with the licences they purchased.. After getting nowhere with the manufacturer, they asked me If I could get the matter sorted out.

So for now, I would be happy just knowing- if anyone has gotten there New Propic2 fully working with Win XP.

para que se utilizan los jumpers del propic 2?

I stand corrected !. 8)
Thanx BRAIN

Yes indeed the latest downloadable Propic2 ver 1.90 is completely crippled.

While I havent gotten an earlier version of Propic for Win XP fully
working, I did mange to get it to:
Read a picf877
Erase a picf877
Program EEprom erea of a picf877
But it will not program the PROGRAM MEM erea of the PIc16f877

All programming voltages measure correct.
I tried using different compatibility settings too.

I even flashed another 12c508a then tried to upgrade etc etc..
Anyhow, I found out what I needed to know so once again thanx Brain.

ic prog lpt win xp

you MUST enable low voltage programming to program an 877 data area

i could only get it too full program using the programmer without the chip in place and a link made to the vcc
this then with icprog will work for all the chips icprog can program{far more } anyway

so... my strong advice is to use a bootblock
this way it is less to flash and can be done with a fluffy or other serial flash

it is only 64 bytes for a boot block
then you can flash via the rb port {linking pin b1 to gnd}
three wires

so realy icprog is your best option anyway
as it will program any chip it supports via the propics own ,normal, hardware

although icprog later versions does indeed also support low voltage and consumer grade flash voltage level interigation

so leaving the chip in place you can also use this feature

im looking at ic prog official pages and readmes
and it says it will work

so the first cheeky idea of flashing the pic 508/508a with the block
using the propic then using icprog is best

anyway
build a epropic2 then you can use epic software

it supports every chip picbasic does and some....

pro pic 2 privileged instruction

OK
I tried low voltage programming and then I jumpered the vcc line ETC. but still the Propic2 xp software refuses to write the PROG MEMORY area of a f877 and f877a.
Even though the propic verify says that all is 100%. it lies big time.
Very odd seing that the read and eeprom burn functions work.

I dont know if this means anything but I also noticed that the Propic2 software is bloody slow burming any chip compared to IC-Prog.

Anyhow my friends will just have to Give the Propic2 software and the manufactuer, the bums rush (wasted a bunch of moolah and 9 months on Propic2 software licences).

For now they will just have to use IC-prog with their boards. It works just fine with or without the 508a and or the vcc jumper in place.
So obviously the problem lies with some sloppily banged together software.

Thanx to all for your help
