This device generates 8-12cm discharges and 20-25cm poorly visible sparks.
This device can be build with elements, which everyone can get/find in their homes:
  • the sphere is made of an old globe 22cm diameter covered with aluminum foil
  • brushes are made of simple filament between PCBs
  • the transmission belt is cut of an old ball (from its bladder)
  • the box is made of chipboard
The purpose of making a such big box was to put a generator inside, but after tests, the discharges were large enough.

Some additional information:
  • the aluminum foil was cut to 3cm wide strips and glued to the globe
  • the transmission belt is 35cm long.
  • the transformer has on out 30V of tension.
  • because of heating of the motor, this device can work about 20 minutes long before a break has to be made
