How a to build a joystick for manual robot based on ABU Robocon competition?

Hey is there anyone who can give me idea to build a joystick for manual robot based on ABU Robocon competition. In past Robocon, my robotics team used a look alike playstation joystick but it wasn't work properly. Please help me.

Hi :)

It depend if you need analog or digital Joy.
I have myself use one analog PS1 Joy but it was shit to use because the
full range was only +/- 20° for each axis.
The best to do if you want analog is just to use analog PC Joy and change the
2 axis potentiometer if they are Log and not Linear models.
For C64 like digital joy is alot easyer to do , i have got some from the 5 way
mini joy from TechToys and it work well.

with this one you get 1 switch / direction + fire.
And why build yourself anything you can get for just some € ... :D
Now if your bots run wireless just add 433Mhz RX/TX module to your controller
and i think it will be good ...
