transition bw

Hi ,
I am confusing how to evaluate the impact of filer's ripple and transition. I guess they should have some impact on the passing signal's SNR. But I havn't found any text descript the problem elaborately. Please give your comments or recommend some text. Thanks a lot.
Best regards.

The effect can be evaluated based on what you are passing thru' the filter.

The transition BW, basically can affect your performance by allowing undesired signal in the region of your interest.
In Audio, it can increase the noise and in Communication it can be Adjacent and alternate channel performances.

The ripple decreases the signal quality (BER in communications).

As you said quantifying shoulb be based on what goes thru' the filter.
