Surge current

The large initial current that flows through the diode rectifier.

Re: Surge current

The surge current is usually caused by some capacitances in the eletronic circuits.

Re: Surge current

The input filter capacitor draw the high initial current, at switch on time
it is inrush current(surge current).

to limit this current use a NTC thermistor.

:D

Re: Surge current

don't be precise guys surge current could exist anywhere not only rectifier circuit!!
definition of surge current could be :"sudden rise of current for very less time" the severity of currnt can be defined by the amplitude of current for small time (generally in mSEC or micro sec)
motor loads, smps loads also derives surge circuit from input
