Yaah,
It worked man,:D finally.....after so much fight.VLC is now up and running.Let me also write the command which finally worked.
rpm -Uvh vlc-0.8.6-2.1.i586.rpm x264-devel-0.54.598-2.0.i586.rpm faac-devel-1.25-2.0.i586.rpm faad2-devel-2.5-2.0.i586.rpm faac-1.25-2.0.i586.rpm faad2-2.5-2.0.i586.rpm
libmad-0.15.1b-2.0.i586.rpm libmad-devel-0.15.1b-2.1.i586.rpm ffmpeg-0.0.6980-2.0.i586.rpm ffmpeg-devel-0.0.6980-2.0.i586.rpm a52dec-0.7.4-2.0.i586.rpm
a52dec-devel-0.7.4-2.0.i586.rpm libdca-0.0.2.35-2.0.i586.rpm libdca-devel-0.0.2.35-2.0.i586.rpm xvidcore-1.1.2-2.0.i586.rpm xvidcore-devel-1.1.2-2.0.i586.rpm
libdvdcss-1.2.9-2.0.i586.rpm libdvdcss-devel-1.2.9-2.0.i586.rpm x264-0.54.598-2.0.i586.rpm avahi-0.6.5-27.i586.rpm libnotify-0.3.2-15.i586.rpm libdvdnav-0.1.10-14.i586.rpm
mpeg2dec-lib-0.4.0-5.i586.rpm libdvdread-0.9.4-160.i586.rpm xosd-2.2.12-17.i586.rpm libmpeg2-0.4.0b-21.i586.rpm python-gdbm-2.4.2-18.i586.rpm libdaemon-0.10-13.i586.rpm
notification-daemon-0.3.4-18.i586.rpm

And after that all other players like Amakok, mmc etc etc also started working.Xine though didn't work.I think I had done some mess up there. It also played the video of wmf format.First of all Thanks III for the support.
But there is one problem.I still can't play the *.DAT formats.
How can I do that? And another doubt. How can I get the recent version of nedit and make it run in my system.Although I had downloaded some ones but none worked out.

Cool U can now truly have fun with Linux ;-)
Well I havenn't come across *.dat files but from what i know about them they shuld be regular mpeg2 files so you shuld be able to open them. For instance in vlc chose open file and for the file name write *.dat this shuld show all dat files in the directory, select the file and tru and open it.

Hey III,
Actually mpeg also opens.Only *.dat files i.e. the video cd files which can be played with the normal cd players without the comp are not opening.
And in the mean time I was trying to install mplayer.
I have these files.
faac-1.25-0.pm.3.i686.rpm libmp4v2-1.4.1-4.i586.rpm w32codec-all-20061022-0.pm.0.i586.rpm
faad2-2.5-0.pm.2.i586.rpm mad-0.15.1b-1.pm.3.i586.rpm x264-0.0svn20061031-1.i586.rpm
lame-3.96.1-2.i586.rpm MPlayer-1.0pre8-8.pm.svn20060811.i586.rpm xvid-1.1.2-0.pm.0.i686.rpm

and I did rpm -Uvh *.rpm
But I got these dependancy errors.
libx264.so.48 is needed by MPlayer-1.0pre8-8.pm.svn20060811.i586
x264 = 0.54.598 is needed by (installed) x264-devel-0.54.598-2.0.i586

I searched for them in the site rpm search. But couldn't get.
Please help. And also on nedit

The dependency problem is beacose U've got software from different packagers.
Well I got MPlayer-1.0rc1-1.pm.1.i586.rpm with x264-0.0svn20061031-1.i586.rpm from packmans site and it works fine.
And unfortunetly I've never came across this kind of video CD's so can't help you there.
but:
according to their faq http://www.mplayerhq.hu/DOCS/HTML/en/vcd.html mplayer can play dat files!
And accordng to this **broken link removed** so can xine.
So use yast to reinstall (clean as you had two versions read previos post for removing your build of xine) your old xine version. And all tho I admire your use of the shell try to install packmans version of xine thru yast as it can resove dependencies a lot better! start yast -> go to add/remove software -> search for xine -> right click on the xine version and chose update or reinstall ;)

Hey III,
I downloaded the files "MPlayer-1.0rc1-1.pm.1.i586.rpm" and "x264-0.0svn20061031-1.i586.rpm" u told from packman's site.

And while trying to install it gave the following dependency errors.

And yesterday I also tried to install xine after unstalling xine-lib by yast. The command I used was.....
rpm -Uvh libxine1-1.1.4-0.pm.0.i586.rpm libcaca-0.9_0.99.beta11-0.pm.0.i586.rpm speex-1.1.99_1.2beta1-0.pm.0.i586.rpm.
And it didn't give any dependancy errors this time.I feel the mistake I did last time was although I downloaded from packman's site I didn't choose 10.1 suse in that.

But the problem is even if it installed (I think as it didn't give any warning) still when I search for the command xine (which xine)
It doesn't show any.ie the command xine still doesn't exist.I don't know why.
Then I searched the files or folders containing the name xine.I found some of them as follows.
/usr/lib/xine
/usr/local/lib/xine
/usr/local/share/doc/xine
/usr/local/share/xine
/usr/local/include/xine
/usr/share/doc/packages/xine
/usr/share/xine
/usr/include/xine

Can you help how can I get it work?

And another thing.I tried using yast.
The screen comes. But how can install various packages which are stored in a directory not in the installation cds?
The options I see are..
Online update.....Which needs me to be online .I can't use it at room.I don't have net there.
Software management....By Which I can only install only those packages which are in the installation cds( I feel). It's also quite painful.
Adon pruduct.....I couldn't find it's use.
Installation source....
Media check.....
Patch cd update...
System update....

My friend xine is not a program but a media library think of it as the divx.ax of the linux world, to use xine-lib you need a user interface: suse has the xine-ui (this is a different package from xine-lib), also kaffeine install one of these from the install cd's to use xine.

You can't use it directly if you're using kde yast adds a option while right clicking an rpm ("install with yast" or something similar)

And yast is good for finding package dependencies if noting else.

Added after 2 minutes:

And yes yast only knows packages that are on the cd, there is an option to add a second source in a dir but I've newer done it and don't know how :(

Ya friend,
Xine also worked after installing xine-ui.
But when I ran these commands I got the following. But I don't know how to avoid. Can you help?
Command
/usr/bin/xine-check

Please be patient, this script may take a while to run...
[ good ] you're using Linux, doing specific tests
[ good ] looks like you have a /proc filesystem mounted.
[ good ] You seem to have a reasonable kernel version (2.6.16.13-4-default)
[ good ] intel compatible processor, checking MTRR support
[ good ] you have MTRR support and there are some ranges set.
[ good ] found the player at /usr/bin/xine
[ good ] /usr/bin/xine is in your PATH
[ good ] found /usr/bin/xine-config in your PATH
[ good ] plugin directory /usr/lib/xine/plugins/1.1.4 exists.
[ good ] found input plugins
[ good ] found demux plugins
[ good ] found decoder plugins
[ good ] found video_out plugins
[ good ] found audio_out plugins
[ good ] skin directory /usr/share/xine/skins exists.
[ good ] found logo in /usr/share/xine/skins
[ good ] I even found some skins.
[ good ] /dev/cdrom points to /dev/hda
[ good ] /dev/dvd points to /dev/hda
[ good ] DMA is enabled for your DVD drive
[ good ] found xvinfo: X-Video Extension version 2.2
[ hint ] Your X server doesn't support YV12 overlays.
That means xine will have to do color space transformation and scaling
in software, which is quite CPU intensive. Maybe upgrading your
X server will help here.
If you have an ATI card, you'll find accelerated X servers on
http://www.linuxvideo.org/gatos/

[ hint ] Your X server doesn't have any XVideo support...
XVideo is an X server extension introduced by XFree86 4.x. This
extension provides access to hardware accelerated color space
conversion and scaling, which gives a great performance boost.
If you have a fast (>1GHz) machine, you may be able to watch all
kinds of video, anyway. You will waste lots of CPU cycles, though...

And another question is in which file are the screen outputs stored when the system boots ?I think there is some error it shows but i can't see them after it logs on.

As you can see it's a problem with your video driver (you do have an ati card)
check this site out http://www.linuxvideo.org/gatos/ as I have an nvidia card I can't help you there.
The screen output during boot is stored in the boot log you can use yast2 to view all your system logs :)

hdc (your secondary master) it's probably your CD or DVD drive and you don't have a disk inserted, or if it's a hard disk it could be a badly formated disk, it could be an error in the mft if it's a ntfs partition or an error in the file allocation table if it's an fat\fat32 partition.
If it's a hard disk it's reckomended that you back up your data and reformat it, don't use winxp for that but the fdisk utility from a win98 startup disk (special type of bootable floppy that microsoft included in win98se and winme, or the linux version of fdisk, you can even use yast2 to reformat :)
