Why specific random & deterministic jitter seperately?

SATA I/II standards as well as many others specify in their JITTER TOLERANCE SPECS for example:

Random Jitter: X
Deterministic Jitter: Y
Total Jitter: Z ( which is usually X + Y)

Does anyone who's familiar with standards know how i could use those seperated Jitter values when calculating the System Parameters.

I find the jitter tolerance mask as the most convenient method that standards declare their specs through.
