Problem with Windows XP LAN network between 2 PCs

hello

i am using lan between a desktop and a laptop both are running on window xp but some times network doesnot work , i have check ed the cable ,that is alright. but after one or two day it works ?

what is the problem

can anyone help me

Try to give both computers static IP address in 192.168.x.x range.

try to disable the firewall for the ethernet connnection

i have disabled firewall on both the system
but also there is problem

Did you define a static IPs and use the same workgroup for both computers ?

yes done both static ips and same workgroup

multiplayer game is working well
but internet connection sharing is in trouble
