configuring an FPGA board

Hi all
recently I got an FPGA starter kit spartan 3e board.
I want to check this board if it is fine.
r there any precautions to be considered.
please help me start over.
 

I am working spartan 3 board.
I think that fist, you should read document of Xilinx.Then you can start work.

and then Download Board's self test.
 

I worked with Spartan3E starter kit before. To check the board just plug the power cable , you will find the LCD displaying a welcome message , when you rotate the shaft encoder you should see leds moving.
