Hello folks
.. Im looking to build a circuit to automaticly open/close a gate (or) door
with the safety feature not to crush if the door (or) gate becomes obstructed by a person pet, or object

I have searched everywhere with no luck

I have managed to build one using SR latches and the H bridge with mirco switches used as stop/strart points .. but its the anti crush fature that i need
I have seen a similar feature on expensive cars .. ie .. open the electric window and it will automaticly reverse if it detects an obstuction .. ie a hand.

Im hoping you guys can help me and suggest ways to build it me self :D

Many Thanks in advance

Hi Blogbo,

You should measure the motor current. When there's an obstacle that blocks
the pad of the door the motor current will increase when the door hits the
obstacle. It's also a good idea to add an extra pair of switches near the
center, where both doors meet, so that you can reduce the speed of the motor
for the last say 30 centimeters before the doors actually close. Maybe you
should replace the mechanical switches with optical ones, doors tend to
open and close very frequent and mechanical switches will become a nuisance
if you have to replace them regularly.
