That was a problem for me and my friends too. Java is a great language and you can do a lot with it but for your case I will go for C++.

when I found a good stuff in JAVA, I'll study that JAVA code and then write it in C/C++.
for compatible w/my microcontroller based works.

C++ is good , specially object oriented programming, its not necessary to know c for learning c++,you have to work little harder if u dont know any programming language.

I think the c/c++ is better and easy to intract with the hardware.
So better you use the c++.
