2n3904 vs mosfet

When doing any manner of low voltage switching in the past, I've relied on either the 2n3904 or the 2n3906, both 250mA-max devices. However, I'd like to find similar "ye ole trusty" MOSFETs to add to my toolbox, so I figured I'd ask about it here. I'm lookng for enhancement-type, as I want the devices to be normally off.

The 2n3904 and 2n3906 are very common complementary devices, readily available. Likewise, I have SPICE models for each, but with regards to similar MOSFETs, I have zip.

What would you recommend as MOSFET substitutes for the 2n3904 and the 2n3906?

...also, with an NPN or PNP, you can't make a voltage controlled resistor, at least not a linear one nor one that swings above and below ground. That's all about an FET, a MOSFET.

2n3906 alternatives

I didn't realize my question would be so difficult. :-(

I went with

ZVP2106A-ND MOSFET P-CH 60V 280MA TO-92
ZVN3306A-ND MOSFET N-CH 60V 270MA TO-92

Vgs = 1.5 -> 3.5 (n-ch) / 0.8 -> 2.4 (p-ch)
Rds(on) = 5Ω

These seemed reasonable. Plus I have SPICE models for these, so I can minimize my surprises.

Added after 3 minutes:

Actually, I goofed on my 2n3904 and 3906 currents. It should've been 200mA, so my MOSFETs aren't quite the same, but they're close enough.
