What is the function of IGBT driver?
Thanks

function of igbt

taiko,
It serves the same function as a power MOSFet driver. When used in switching applications, you want the gate voltage to change state as quickly as possible. In order to do this you must charge up the gate capacitance as quickly as possible. The gate voltage dv/dt = I/C. This means foar a large dv/dt, you must supply a large current to the gate during the time the gate voltage is changing state. This is what the IGBT driver does. It is designed to provide high levels of gate current for short periods of tie.

Kral

What is the function of MOSFET driver that same with IGBT Driver?

Re: IGBT Driver

hideaki,
Both MOSFETs and IGBTs have insulated gates with input capacitance. The drivers for both device types must supply voltage to the gates. The gate voltages must have fast rise times in order to minimize switching losses. The drivers to both device types provide this fast-rise-time gate voltage.

Re: IGBT Driver

The structure is very similar to that of a vertically diffused MOSFET. The main difference is the use of a p+ substrate layer for the drain.
