Mosfet voltage breakdown.

mosfet voltage

I'm using a mosfet (IRF510) to pulse current through an inductor to generate a high voltage to charge a capacitor. The problem I'm having is the Drain Source breakdown voltage of an IRF510 is 100 volts so once the capacitor is charged to about 100 volts the FET breaks down and keeps me from getting any higher voltage. Is there any way to 'hide' this high voltage from the FET so I can get a higher voltage, or am I stuck with 100 volt limit unless I switch to another FET or BJT?
 

I don't think you will be able to protect this switching MOSFET against high voltages ..
So, try to select one with higher Vds, something like IRF830, BUK444/500B or P7NB60FP - to name just a few - all rated for >500V ..
