most widely used microcontroller

Hi!!!
Can any one tell me the most widely used micro-controller in automotives(cars) and the related book ans i am doing my project in it .........

top automotive microcontrollers

Hi, I know Motorola/ Hitachi was used a lot by Opel/General motors in the past don't know for other brands.

Paul.

microcontroller used in cars

Thanx for the reply.....IF any one can siggest the specific controller and the document.....it will be really APPRECIATED !

automotive microcontrollers ranking

Hi

Each and every systems are using specific microcontrollers. Motorola HCS12X is very famous in Brake System, Suspension and steering system design.
You can get lot of info about this from www.freescale.com

Like this Hitachi Controllers are famous in body electronics and Renasas is famous in car infotainment systems. You can visit those websites and see the applications and applications notes....those will help you

Hi,
Microchip is in a big way with CAN Bus and sensors, the manufacturing rules and certification required for automobile electronics are very strict in europe and US, Microchip has got an automotive electronics development division to act as an interface between Auto manufactures and PIC users. Talk to Microchip

widely used microcontrollers

TI's MSP470 32 bit ARM uc are also being used in the cars

which microcontrollers are widely used

Microchip has PIC18F458 AND PIC18F258 and AVR has 90S128CAN to offer for automotive industry.

Hi
Renesas SH7058/59 series - Engine management system.
Renesas M32R series - Engine management system and
Automatic Transmission (AT)
NEC V850E - Electronic Valve lift
Renesas M16c - Ford Cluster , ABS
TMS470 Automotive - Ford Engine managements and Audio.

Motorola is the most widely used.
The reason is the CAN bus protocols.
The complexity of the protocols used are such that the costs of developing compliant systems are so high that it is more economical to buy pre-built compliant can libraries . The defacto supplier of can system software is Vector with programs such as Canalyser and Canoe. The libraries sold by vector recommend Motorola micros as the code is developed with them.

Besides resurrecting a real old thread, a couple corrections:
!. CAN is most definitely not from Motorola nor from Freescale as Motorola has not been doing semiconductors for approx. 5 years now, get used to it.
2. Vector has drivers for Freescale, Infineon, NXP, Renesas, NEC... just to name a few.

It is correct, that Freescale is #1 in overall automotive microcontroller sales, Infineon second, don't know about the other ones in ranking
