I have the ATAVRISP(original and mkII) and the AT89ISP programmers. The original serial atavrisp can override the reset signal while the mkII and at89isp programmers cannot. We believe it is due to output limitations of 74hc244 and 74vhc244.

Has anyone any ideas why the serial atavrisp(all actual atmel products) cannot reset the ds1232 to reprogram an AT89S52 onboard a pcb?

Can anyone help? No, I cannot redesign the pcb. It is a customer design. The customer is working on the problem also.

With 1232 monitor chip in this circuit you can manually (or by a digital output) issue RESET signal by holding pin 1 (pushbutton input) low ..
