Question about maximum intensity of 3 polarizers

3 polarizer assembly

3 polarizers are subjected to a laser beam; the first one's axis is horizontal the second after it is verical and the thired is inbetween them.
When rotating the third one the intensity is maximum when the third is 45 degrees off the first one
Why??
