Galvanic isolators

Hi to all,
could someone tell me what a galvanic isolator is? And which are the applications which require the use of these devices? Last but not the least does someone know ADUM 1100 galvanic isolators from
Analog Device?
Thanks to all
Mowgli

opto replacement

This is an alternative to opto-isolators. This one uses transformer coupling. This is an old idea which was used in analog signal isolators.

The use of an isolator is when the two ends of the path are at different voltges from the earth or in situations where current cannot be allowd to flow common mode down the cables for safety reasons.

hi mowgli

check this site : ww*w.sensors*mag.*com

you can search for isolation and find many articles about isolation.

galvanic isolation is done by 4 method:
1: optocouplet
2: magnetic (transformer based)
3: capacitive isolation(see burrb*rown isolation products from TI)
4: magneto resistive couplers

galvanic means that there is no ohmic or conductive relation between two part of a circuit data and power and signals is tranfered by non lectrical methods like as optic, magnetic and ...

there is not connection between two part.

bye

Thank you all guys.
