I used AVR and PIC, AVR is much powerful, but also higher price as well. PIC as easier to use and get ...

I feel "Automation application" was a too general 'specification '.

'Zoom In' to your specific area,I belive you will get more specific and suitable answers then.

I tdepends on the type of automation. some MCU may be better suited to industrial control other maybe not at all. If you specify the field in more detail you will get better answers

AVR is simply amazing. It is very easy to program the chip, has a lot of features and does a decent job.

I choose AVR for the complex automation, emm about the reason because AVR is easy to get in my country
