modulation index typical

in FM? where the modulation index is defined as the ratio of the peak frequency deviation and the frequency of the message tone.

It all depends upon the situation.

Narrowband voice usually has the occupied bandwidth of 6 kHz.

Wideband voice is a few times this number.

Broadcasting bandwidth usually is 5x the highest audio frequency.

For standard FM Transmission
ΔF = 75KHz ==> m = 5
This gives a bandwidth of about 240KHz.
