how ADC take AC voltage

i m using ADC 0804. plz tell me the circuit for connecting AC voltage to ADC input. further more i have 220/5V transformer. can i connect transformer output (5V) to ADC input. At 220V frequency is 50 hz. i m step downing 220v Ac to 5V AC using transformer. can transformer output (5v ac) be applied to ADC input means is there any problem in step downing or current rating for ADC

Re: how ADC take AC voltage

THe ADC0804 has 0-5V input range and therefore can not be connected to 5Vac.
Depeding on what are you going to measure, you will have to rectify this 5Vac and/or smoothe using a smoothing capacitor and a small load (if necessary voltage divider), and protect the ADC0804 input, so no voltages above 5V will be permitted.

Re: how ADC take AC voltage

Limits of input voltage range to A/D converter are 0V min and +5V max. If you want to connect AC voltage to A/D you must use DC voltage offset on input signal asuring that summ of AC voltage and DC ofset will not exceed allowed limits.
