I need to design an IGBT based dc powersupply for electrochemical application
Planned to making high current(500A), low ripple and high frequency

Can we just rectify and change the voltage by PWM?


Any starting material to start the design with?
 

You didn't specify the output voltage respectively power.

I presume it's low voltage output, it needs a transformer for acceptable efficiency, either 50 Hz or mid-frequency (kHz range). Isolation might be required for safety reasons anyway.

Sorry, its 6 to 12V, power will be 0-500A x 6-12V, so power will be around 3kW to 6kW

Hi there, we have done 20kHz switch-modes off 3 phase mains to give 600A at 10VDC, it is not too hard as 565V ( 3 phase rectified bus ) means switching only 12A in the IGBT's - the trick is to have several transformers in series / parallel to make it easier to get the 500A ( in your case ) out

this also helps spread the heat - feel free to PM me for more tips
