Easiest way to get 5v and ~1V

Like every electronics designer you need to read datasheets.
Then you know about wiring.

Did you read a bout the currents?
* An 7805 is able to supply more than 3000 of MCP601 Opamps.
* An 7805 draws maybe more than 20 times the current of an MCP601.

...but it should work.

Perhaps a L78L would be a better choice, given that it outputs 100mA vs. 1.5A of the L78?
