I did simulate a microstrip line in a EM solver, and extracted the distributed circuit parameters in a matlab script. With these parameters, I can build a circuit in ADS to which has comparable S-parameters with the EM solver simulation. This gives my linear circuit parameters.

Further, I introduced some dielectric materials onto the microstrip line, extracted parameters and built the circuit in ADS again. This should give me (linear and) nonlinear circuit parameters.

Now trying to simulate these circuits using a Harmonic Balance solver in ADS to study harmonics and inter-modulations but I can not detect any of such. My instructor advised on "using effective quantities instead of instantaneous" to which I think he is saying my input power should be modeled as instantaneous values. But to the best of my knowledge ADS only allows effective power values for the HB solver, which he feels it isn't sufficient to give me inter-modulations.

Has anyone been able to use "instantaneous input power" in HB analysis of ADS before and can advise me on how to do same?

HB Analysis search the Steady State status of the circuit so instantaneous signals/waveforms etc. are not interessed by HB.
Instantaneous term can be related to transient regime only..
