What is saturation current of ELC09D-221 (220uH) inductor?

Unfortunately , Datasheet only gives irms..

Reference the L vs I curves on page one. Saturation is usually defined as a 20-40% drop in inductance.

EDIT: Nevermind that appears to be a part selection guide. I've also never seen an inductor datasheet quite like this.

And I wouldn't normally assume anything about the relationship between saturation and rated current. They can often be quite different (and either one can be larger).

I agree in so far that it might be interesting to know if the rated current of a particular inductor, e.g. the said 220 uH type, is defined by thermal considerations or 10 % inductance drop. In the former case, the inductor is capable of carrying a higher ripple current.

You'll either use a more completely specified inductor or measure it yourself.

Thanks FvM, that's brilliant, we will change to the Wurth 7447452221

    - - - Updated - - -

The RLB0914 is some five times cheaper though, and its difficult to say which has the higher saturation current..because even though RLB0914-221 datasheet says its got higher isat....its irms is less than Wurth 7447452221.....so the Bourns one looks worse...and is physically smaller...so the wurth one is kind of more believable
