Contribution of the array elements to the Axial Ratio and polarization specification

Can anyone please guide how do the array elements contribute to the Axial Ratio (AR)?? Also, what are the axial ratio values to specify the polarization of antenna, i.e. linear, circular, and elliptical? (any authentic source).
