This is a picture of my blood pressure monitor battery compartment.

battery compartment.jpg

I used 2 aa alkaline batteries and 2 NiMh batteries. (I now know why they tell you not to mix batteries)

The alkaline batteries corroded badly, while the NiMh batteries seem to be corrosion free.

The top left side terminals are black and they had the alkaline batteries.

I added new alkaline batteries and the BP monitor still works.

Can I clean those dirty terminals?

Thanks.

use a toothbrush or similar brush with a little alcohol to clean the terminals
make sure its dry before putting batteries back in

i don't think the mis-matched batteries caused the corrosion
how long were the batteries in the monitor?

You should never try to charge alkaline batteries.
For the few times I used Duracell alkaline batteries they leaked and corroded. All the times I used energizer batteries they never leaked or corroded.
Both Duracell and Energizer Ni-MH batteries are made in Japan (maybe by the same company?) and both use the Sanyo/Panasonic "Eneloop" chemistry now.
