upd6453 program

I need to make an interface so a low speed MCU can drive a monitor.
Is there any IC that accepts bus signals and outputs RGB analog signals
suitable for a VGA monitor ?

My regards

video overlay rgb microcontroller

Search for OSD (on screen display). I have used NEC upd6450 and upd6453 chips to drive a monitor. They are fairly easy to interface and program and can easily accept slow signals on the bus. They have a serial bus.

rgb interface mcu

Can you share a pdf or something ?

Thanks

mcu to vga

It was long time ago. I dont have any schematics at this time. I dont even know if NEC upd6450 or 6453 are still in production. So you better decide on which chip you want to use first. There is an 8051 derivative (perhaps from Philips) that has OSD built in.

The interfacing of upd6450 is quite simple actually. If I remember correctly, it had 4 serial pins to connect to microcontroller, a few for oscillator and more selection, a video in and a video out.

If you really decide on the 6450, I will try to fish my old records if I can find some notes.

a lot of things are here :

may be you can make a small board with a pic or something (the author has better results with sx micros) to interface with your design ?

microcontroller rgb monitor

NEC upd6450 and upd6453 are still available for about 20 US dollars (from a fast web search, never bought one). But I can't find a datasheet in english.
So, I would appreciate datasheets too.

Kripton2035, I know this site but all that stuff goes with high speed MCU when
it is for 16 colors.
There must be an one chip solution where I can connect the MCU and the chip
will take care of rest, so the MCU will be ocuupied doing some other tasks.

Regards to all of you

Sure; it is called a videoprocessor and you have at least one in each PC.
Only it is not simple to simulate an AGP or PCI bus on a '51 :-(

But for inspiration, go e.g. to this site (although it is quite old and the display is TV-like rather than some modern xyzVGA).

Added after 4 minutes:

Oh yes, and check out http://www.dontronics.com/micro-vga.html , that is most probably exactly what you need.

mcu monitor interfacing

You need a sync-generator IC. I used an own-customed microcontroller for this.

Here is a link to the µPD6450 data sheet.

This IC can overlay characters on a live composite video signal or generate its own colour backround with white characters. Characters can also have black frindge.
Similar IC is STV5730:

This one is more recent than the µPD chip..
