Nope - no need - we've been doing this since 1994, originally used an UC3854 to get the error signal for modulation - remember we can do it with an half bridge too - 600W to 1.2kW - then full bridge above that ... you could use a high performance digital controller - but you can also use advanced analog design ... and yes we can use a version with bi-directional fets to remove the front end rectifier ...
