Whats the use for stud mounting 3.5W zeners such as a 1N1595A or a 5W stud mounted zener when there are very small 5w axial packages available?

Can they at least clamp and handle much higher peak power than axial parts?

Benefits aside from thermal impedance to heatsink.

I'm not aware of in-production 3.5 or 5W stud mount zener diodes. They have usually 10W upwards. May there are some legacy types.

Short time peak power depends on the die size, not the case.
