Hi,

Which kind of touch screen is used in smartphones, capacitive or resistive?

Senmeis

Normally capacitive.
It's more difficult with resistive sensors to detect more than one finger at a time.

Brian.

But I have to touch the screen physically to activate it while for capacitive screen it’s not necessary.

Don't confuse possible features of capacitive touch sensors with useful parameters for smart phone operation. You don't want the touch to be overly sensitive.

Anyway, you can easily distinguish if a touch screen reacts on pressure or conductive objects touching/coming close to the surface. You'll find that recent smart phones are using capacitive multi-touch technology.
