I wan to become intimate with the PLLs and DLLs. I think the best way is to design and operate them in simulation and on bench. However, I am not sure where to start. It is possible to create them in MATLAB Simunlink (maybe) to learn about how the mechanism works. But I don't know if they can be constructed using different components on bench or can only work in an integrated circuit.

Please advise.

Sure, if you know how to build the PLL functions (vco, phase respectively phase/frequency detector and loop filter) from discrete components.

Hi,

There are a lot of informations, documents, tutorials, videos about DLL and PLL in the internet.

I assume you already worked through some of them.

I think it's a good idea to tell us which ones you used ... then you can tell us what you understand so far and what is unclear.

DLL

Must read research and papers, not really any book on it specifically.

For example try: https://www.ece.ucsb.edu/~long/ece594a/DLL.pdf

Hello,

DLL is mostly covered in books and book chapters along with PLL.

Razavi has a good reference paper and tutorial on DLL in his book:

Phase-Locking in High-Performance Systems: From Devices to Architectures Paperback
by Behzad Razavi

This paper I linked in previous message is the best tutorial on the subject:
https://www.ece.ucsb.edu/~long/ece594a/DLL.pdf

Other than that it is course notes from universities and patents and papers that help you to do DLL.

To my knowledge there hasnt been a book dedicated to DLL released. I could be wrong.
