I want to share with you...
High output current, short circuit protection circuit diagram.

(We can remove Q3 and support components for Q3, just keep Q1 &Q2 are enough for circuit operating)
just using 1 LED for indicator: RED or Green
You can customize your circuit for waht you need.

When the short happen, It cuts out the DC-out, to operation again, just press reset button.

Does it work in real hardware? Unlikely.

Need to check if safe operating area is kept for different short resistances.
 

It can work if you implement a current limit in Q1 by reducing the gate voltage, and replace Q2 with a bipolar transistor.
Otherwise Q1 is probably outside of the safe operating area for some shorts, as mentioned by FvM.
The relation between Q1 gate voltage and "current limit" is not very exact, so you need to design for 2-3 times the wanted maximum current.
