Using different feed networks for antenna array

Hello
Does different feeding topology yield one antenna array pattern?
Suppose that we have a surface waveguide array and we can combine the rows or combine the columns at first stage and then combine the resultant in second stage.
Or first sum odd elements and then combine it with even elements.
Thanks a lot.
