    Dc to dc buck converter for solar panel

    Hello guys, if I wanted to design a dc to dc buck converter for solar panel, which MOSFET should I choose? The panel is 3w, 12v. And what if I test the buck converter with LED rather than rechargeable battery? Is it work?

    Hi,

    * a battery needs a charge controller
    * a LED usually needs a constant current source.

    I´d say you can´t use one controller for the other load.

    Regarding MOSFET: I assume (hope) you use a dedicated IC for this. Then usually in the datshett you find information how to choose MOSFET. Please also read related application notes.

    Btw: you are not the first one to build circuits like this, thus there are a lot of example circuits around. No need to re-invent the wheel.

    well you could try the LT8490 which does maximum power point tracking for you, so that you can squeeze max energy out of those panels...no matter what the light levels are..
